Indy Street Sweep is a neighbor-led cleanup crew. Five smaller sweeps a year, one big citywide morning every July, and a simple idea behind all of it: show up for the place that shows up for you.

// How it started

It started with a handful of us.

In 2025, our team at Roots Realty Co had a simple thought: we make our living in this city, so we ought to help take care of it. So one morning we grabbed bags and gloves and cleaned up a few blocks ourselves.

Then we invited a few friends. The next time, more people showed up. And the time after that, more again. A handful of coworkers turned into neighbors, businesses, and whole families giving up a Saturday morning together.

That momentum built to one big July morning, when 777 people turned out to clean up the city at once. It worked. So now we keep going, and we keep growing: smaller neighborhood sweeps through the year, one big citywide sweep every July, and a crew that gets a little bigger each time.

// Why we sweep

Everybody knows somebody here.

Indianapolis is a giving city. People here look out for each other, and you’re about one introduction away from knowing just about anyone.

So we grab brooms, bags, and gloves and take care of the blocks we all share. Two hours, a cleaner neighborhood, and a few more people you know by name.
